Safaricom Bulk SMS

A SMS service where businesses send high and low volumes of SMS quickly to staff or customers.

Safaricom’s Bulk SMS is a messaging service which allows businesses to send high and low volumes of SMS quickly and efficiently to their staff, suppliers or customers through an online portal.

To sign up for the Bulk SMS service, please take note of the below requirements:

• Fill in an application form (see attachment). If you have a sender ID, send a letter confirming ownership of Sender ID name together with the application form. If you do not have one, request for one at a one-off charge of 5000/= per network ( excl. TAX)

• Open a business account with Safaricom Partners Like Afrokatt. ( you can use your existing account)

• Pay for your desired package- Since this is a prepaid service, you will require to make a prepayment equivalent to your desired package. The payment can be in the form of an LPO

• An email will then be sent to you with portal access credentials and user guides

A Sender Id (Number Masking) The client will advise on the sender Id to be configured on the code so as to mask it and have the users receive an SMS from an alphanumeric ID. This serves to win the confidence of the users as they will be able to tell who is communicating to them.

To Note:

Bulk SMS is subject to strict regulation by the communication authority to prevent spamming. As such there will be need for registration of the intended recipients for the purposes of populating the recipients’ database complete with phone numbers. The regulator expects that the service is an opt-in; alternatively Customer may request CAK to grant special approval or exemption for this purpose.
